Factory and Household Actions
Every household can improve the pollution by not dump anything down storm drains, take care of pet waste, keep automobiles well maintained and limit the usage of fertilizer on the lawn. Citizens should join some volunteer organizations to go to the river and clean up,build rain barrels, and make leaflets or posters around the neighborhood to inform others.
The plans for factories near the potomac is to place filters or selective permeable screens to the sewer or drain. Only water that can pass through the pollutants like coal, ashes, and petroleum that is brought down by the stormwater on the dock would be blocked.
Government Action
Local Alexandria governors granted $454.4 million used to renovate the antiquated sewer system. The out-dated sewer system has caused 120 million gallons of combined sewage each year. These rainwater sewage overflows into the Potomac river. The reinstallation of the sewer system aimed to be completely finished by 2025.
